The summit of Belantara 47 of Department of Silviculture, Faculty of Forestry, IPB

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – The summit of the introduction period of the Department of Silviculture (Belantara 47) was held in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) Sukabumi on 13-15 January 2012.

The Belantara 47 began in October at Dramaga Campus of IPB and ended at GWUF. The participants in Belantara 47 were 59 new students of the 47th Batch of Department of Silviculture and 59 committees. The summit of the Belantara event at GWUF was also attended by 10 lecturers and staff of the Silviculture Department.

“This Belantara activity aims to introduce the Department of Silviculture and the Tree Grower Community (TGC) and to familiarize all members of the Department of Silviculture”, said Abdullah Azzam, Chief Executive Officer of Belantara 47.

Activities carried out during Belantara 47 in GWUF included tracking, GPS recognition, vegetation analysis, knowing how to measure tree diameter, studying the properties of fire triangles, learning about seedlings, learning how to plant well, introducing wetland systems like mangrove, the inauguration of participants, family gathering, and planting tree seedlings.

“Gunung Walat University Forest has become a place for new Silviculture students to understand silvicultural activities and GWUF has given enlightenment to our new students”, said Prof. Dr. Nurheni Wijayanto as Head of the Department of Silviculture.

“We expect they will be students who have a strong inner bond and have a network among them in building future forestry”, he added.
