The summit event of the Orientation of the Silviculture Department 46th Batch Student (Belantara 46)

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – The summit event of the Orientation of the Silviculture Department 46th Batch Student (Belantara 46) was held in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) on 4-6 December 2010.

The Belantara 46 event began in October at IPB Darmaga Campus and ended at GWUF.

The theme of Belantara 46 is “Young Generation to Create Best Sylviculture for Future” that is in order to create young people to save the forest in the future.

Participants who took part in the Belantara 46 were 63 students of the 46th batch (2009) of Silviculture Department, 63 committees, 40 senior-class students, and 10 lecturers.

This Belantara event also aimed to introduce the student organization in the Silviculture Department, that is the Tree Grower Community (TGC).

“The Belantara event at GWUF include outbound, hiking, planting tree and aim to gain corsa within foresters and awareness to save the environment”, said Iwan Hilwan, MS Silviculture lecturer who was also the supervisor of TGC.

“It is expected that students will be more familiar with TGC and be closer to silviculture, get to know activities engaged in silviculture, get real experience in planting and recognize natural laboratories in the form of educational forests, that is GWUF,” he added.

The highlight of the Belantara 46 event included the 46th Silviculture student inauguration by Prof. Bambang Hero Saharjo as the Head of Department of Silviculture.

“This Belantara 46 aims to create the Fahutan (Faculty of Forestry, red) family, especially Silviculturists, can create TGC personalities who are devoted to paying attention to Indonesia’s forests” explained by Ardiansa Purnama as Chairman of the Belantara 46 Committee.
