The practice of forest planning by the Bogor Forestry Training Center

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – The practice of forest planning by the Bogor Forestry Training Center had taken place on 12-15 November 2013 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

The need for competent and certified technical personnel in terms of forest management in forestry companies is mandatory as regulated in Minister of Forestry Regulation No. P.20/MENHUT-II/2010. That was why Bogor Forestry Education and Training Center in Gunung Batu, Bogor in cooperation with APHI (Asosociation of Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs) held forest planning practices in the Gunung Walat University Forest in Sukabumi, West Java. This activity was attended by 19 participants from outside Java.

“The role of these participants is very strategic for both forest planning engineering and technical personnel in opening forest areas that must be fulfilled immediately to be able to make long-term plans that are efficient and effective for, of course, a long-term plans: 10 years” said the committee who was also a lecturer at the Bogor Forestry Training Center, Mr. Priyambudi Santoso, M.Sc, when he was met at the location of the activity.

According to him before this practice took place, for the past 15 days, participants had been provided with theories at the Forestry Training Center, Gunung Batu, Bogor. Supervised by widyaiswara and Director General of Forestry Business Development with the aim of long-term forest management focused on IHMB (Periodic Comprehensive Forest Inventory). During their time in Gunung Walat, the participants will practice the theories that have been learned.

“Gunung Walat is seen as an example of a place that is worthy of being chosen for areas which are close to Bogor. It is actually not the most suitable one because these participants work from outside of Java so it should be in outside of Java. However, because of efficiency and non-totality in the sense, all competencies are fulfilled to be trained in here” he said.

He said that for 4 days at Gunung Walat, the participants would conduct a simulation in the form of work area arrangement, IHMB, ITSP (Inventory of Wood Before Logging). The activity ended with a two-day competency test at the Bogor Forestry Education and Training Center, Gunung Batu, Bogor and the granting of certificates.

“Sometimes there are third parties to test competencies, so they can get higher recognition because according to the requirements of the ministerial regulation, each company must have these type of workers” he explained, who is also an alumnus of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB Batch 11.

He hoped that after this practice, the participants could make good forest planning in accordance with the prevailing regulations.

“So we always check the work attitude that can be developed, because this training only stimulates, but when they start working on the field is the real thing. Surely, they who work in their field must develop according to the prevailing regulation” he concluded.
