Education and Training of Educational Forest Management by Bogor Forestry Education and Training Center

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Education and Training of Educational Forest Management by Bogor Forestry Education and Training Center took place on May 8, 2013, in Gunung Walat University Forest.

The training was attended by 20 participants from the Forestry Training Center (BDK) throughout Indonesia (Pematang Siantar, Pekanbaru, Bogor, Kadipaten, Samarinda, and Kupang ), 3 mentors, and 3 committee members from the Bogor Forestry Education and Training Center.

The training plan for this forest training learnt about how to manage a good education and training forest, who are independent and able to support training activities at BDK in their respective regions.

Activities in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) were preceded by presentations and discussions by GWUF Executive Director, Ir. Budi Prihanto, MS, on the management of GWUF as an example of independent and successful small-scale forest management. In this discussion, the participants were very enthusiastic because the participants tried to explore the knowledge in detail in order to overcome the problems that exist in their education and training forest of each region.

After the discussion, the field visits was held to observe the facilities at basecamp, the location of pine and agathis sap warehouses and continued by the practice of tapping sap and tracking into the forest with field discussions again with the Executive Director of GWUF.

“In our opinion, GWUF as a training forest has been managed well enough so that it can be independent. A non-timber forest production runs well and GWUF can support education and training activities. We hope that your friends will get this inspiration to be carried out in their respective regions” explained Ir Samsudi, M.Sc as the Head of the Education and Training Committee.
