Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – The practice of rehabilitation and creativity in the development of forest production by the Bogor Forestry Education and Training Center on 7-8 October 2013 in the Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

This activity lasted for two days with 30 training participants throughout Indonesia. The participants, who will become the Head of Forest Management Unit, are educated with material related to forest rehabilitation and forest management.

“The activities here are basically group into two aspect, they are the material related to rehabilitation, forest management, and wood condition observation and the observations of sap or nontimber products” explained the Educator of Bogor Forestry Education and Training Center, Ir. Samsudin, M.Sc when met during of the activity.

According to him, the most important thing from this training activity was the additional material in the form of management of forest conflict. Specifically in Gunung Walat, nature and people life were very close together.

“Because there are people who live around the forest, they are always involved in management such as tapping sap and planting” he said. He added that by using a zero cutting system, there was added economic value for the community without cutting down the trees so that the forest became sustainable and produced forest management creations in the future.

“Hopefully, the knowledge gained from this practice is absorbed by the training participants and providing inspiration on how they will apply it in their respective areas” he concluded.
