Education and Training of PT. Mutu Agung Lestari Depok

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Education and Training of PT. Mutu Agung Lestari Depok was held on 3-5 September 2014 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

The needs for competent auditors in the field of certification, especially in oil palm plantation companies, made the certification process for HCV (High Conservation Value) industrial forest increasingly preferred. So to improve the certification skills, IPB in collaboration with PT. Mutu Agung Lestari held certification training in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi, West Java.

The training was attended by 25 auditors from PT. Mutu Agung Lestari and 7 lecturers from the IPB Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Economics and Management, and Faculty of Human Ecology. During the activities at Gunung Walat, the participants were required to improve their skills in providing certification so that the quality of the production can accord the required standards, whether it was RSPO for oil palm or ecolabel schemes in Industrial Plantation Forests (HTI).

“Now they (the company) want to have many auditors who are capable in auditing, so they ask us to increase their skills. In this case, we teach the process for obtaining data about HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) from the identification, the processing, the monitoring, and until the document process” said the coordinator who was also a retired lecturer from the Faculty of Forestry of IPB, Mr. Mahmud Tohari.

According to him, before the training was held, there were several location options that would be appropriate for training. PT Mutu Agung Lestari also offered an option of providing another place. However, it was considered that there would be any disturbance to conduct a training in the office, so Gunung Walat became the suitable place for training.

“We say that in Gunung Walat University Forest, we have facilities for lodging, meetings, and consumption. The place is also quite isolated from the crowd so that later all the participants who take part in the training can be calm, not bothered by other business”he said.

He added that there were some suggestions from the participants toward the availability of internet facilities to facilitate data access. Overall, the training was successfully conducted.

“In general, we see that staff of GWUF from the directors until the staff are quite responsive. They provide good services. If we look at the participants of this training they are quite happy, even though there must be something to be improved” he concluded.
