Comparative study of damar (Agathis loranthifolia) resin by a staff of the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park, Cianjur

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Comparative study of damar (Agathis loranthifolia) resin by a staff of the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park, Cianjur was held on October 10, 2014, in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

This comparative study aimed to study the utilization of NTFPs (Non-Timber Forest Products) that had been applied at Gunung Walat.

“So there are new regulations regarding the management of forest resource conservation and now it allows the utilization of NTFPs in the national park conservation area. Well, for the utilization of NTFPs, especially this type of resin is new a thing for us. So we are thinking of finding a reference about technical and production aspect in the closest and suitable one, that is GWUF” said a member of the data analysis team on the Development and Utilization of Forest Resources and Ecotourism of National Park Management Section III, Selabintana, Yanie N Dewi, S.Hut.

In her opinion, Gunung Walat University Forest had been competent in producing resin so that it became a reference for learning some technical aspects, such as how many quotas of sap ought to be issued and how to marketed it.

“So we have a discussion and this may be the initial step. There will be more in the future. Our collaboration with GWUF will continue” said a 38th batch alumnus of Forest Resource Conservation and Ecotourism Department of IPB Faculty of Forestry.

Yanie added that in addition to this comparative studies, she also reminisced with old memories when they practised with her classmates at Gunung Walat.

“Three of us are the alumni of IPB, in the past, we used to practice in here too” she concluded.
