Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Practices in Tree Health Monitoring by Tropical Silviculture Postgraduate Student of Department of Silviculture, Faculty of Forestry, IPB took place on 13-14 January 2016 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

This practice was attended by 23 students of the 2015 Tropical Silviculture Postgraduate Program and one supervising lecturer.

While at Gunung Walat, students immediately conducted forest health monitoring in various types of woods. This was to determine the condition of the woods whether it was still healthy and feasible to produce NTFPs (Nontimber Forest Products) or not (already infected with pests).

“So here we are taught how to determine the plus trees first, then how to start forest health monitoring and making plots of measurements as well. We are also taught the difference between tree health monitoring for acacia, agathis, and pine” said representative of the Tropical Silviculture Postgraduate student, Ardiansyah Purnama, when met at the location of the activity.

Ardiansyah Purnama added that while at Gunung Walat, supporting facilities such as bedrooms, the discussion room, and the service done by the staff while in the forest was quite satisfying.

“We want to thank the Gunung Walat party because we have been welcomed with adequate facilities and infrastructure. Here we are also accompanied by a guide from one of GWUF staff” closed by the alumni of the Department of Silviculture, Faculty of Forestry, IPB Batch 45.
