Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Camping Science of SMP SMK Bizsmart Depok was held on 3-5 April 2013 in Gunung Walat University Forest.
Camping Science was the theme of SMP SMK Bizsmart Depok activities that combined camping in the nature and practice of science in the field.
For 3 days, 17 students and 6 teachers of SMP SMK Bizsmart Depok including the principal, Mrs. Witri Anggraini, participated directly in the camping ground area of Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF).
Besides the camping, there were also activities related to science including the practice of sap tapping, the introduction of forest biodiversity such as medicinal plants in the forest, and measurement practices of water discharge, pH, and temperature in GWUF watershed.
“Activities here are more meaningful because children are directly involved in practice and we are very happy to get a lot of useful knowledge, especially for children”, said Hadiat as the chairman of the camping science committee.
In this activity students also held interactive discussions related to the education world that was delivered in a more interesting way.
“Children prepare performances of drama about Muslim science figures and their biography that is delivered uniquely. Students become interested in the fact that the scientist is not identical with white clothes and just working in the laboratory but it turns out to be very broad meaning. There are also training activities in nature, group discussions about environmental concerns, and so on. The children are very enthusiastic to participate in this camping science”, explained Hadiat.
