Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Industrial Practices (PI) 2018 of SMK Kehutanan Negeri Pekanbaru Riau took place on 5th February – 5th April 2018 in Gunung Walat University Forest.
Considering one of the missions of GWUF is to actualize the implementation of science and technology of education and research in effective management of forest resources and the environment, it became concerns for all academics to learn about forestry science. The implementation was realized by the field practices of SMK Kehutanan Negeri Pekanbaru Riau.
Activities that lasted two months from February 5 to April 5, 2018, contained material about the vocational packages they learned at school accompanied by teaching assistants from students and lecturers of IPB Faculty of Forestry.
“We are from SMK Kehutanan Negeri Pekanbaru Riau want to gain knowledge in here because Gunung Walat is a large institution IPB has” said Head ofInventory, Production, and RRH Program of SMK Kehutanan Negeri Pekanbaru Riau, Mr. Sriyono, SP, when met after the opening ceremony at Matoa Hall of GWUF on Monday (05/02).
According to the entire series of practices, it was expected to bring positive results after returning to Pekanbaru.
Another opinion was expressed by a teacher of SMK Kehutanan Negeri Pekanbaru Riau, Mrs. Bint Masruroh S, when met after the opening ceremony.
“We choose the GWUF as the study site in consideration that after learning from here, students can get new knowledge” explained she who was also Head of Production Unit of SMK Kehutanan Negeri Pekanbaru Riau.
According to her, under the guidance of IPB, it was expected that students can learn the balance between economy, ecology, and social aspects
“Students can learn about social science and agroforestry, recognize the potential that exists here especially the natural potential” she said.
Previously known that the field practice was beginning by a symbolic opening by the Director of GWUF, Mr. Dr. Nandi Kosmaryandi, M.Sc.F, and the representative of SMK Kehutanan Negeri Pekanbaru Riau, Mr. Sriyono S.P.
This activity was attended by 69 11th grade students who were divided into two departments: Reclamation and Forest Rehabilitation with 35 students and Technique of Inventory and Forest Mapping with 33 students.
