Summer Course of Ehime University Japan: Introduction to Tropical Forestry in Indonesia

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Summer Course of Ehime University Japan: Introduction to Tropical Forestry in Indonesia was held on March 3-7, 2014 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

Tropical forests in Indonesia remained an attraction for foreigners, both for research and exchange of knowledge about conservation, forest products, and social welfare.

That was why Ehime University Japan cooperated with the Faculty of Forestry of IPB to visit Gunung Walat University Forest in Sukabumi, West Java.

Activities called Summer Course Ehime University Japan, Introduction to Tropical Forestry in Indonesia held on 3-7 March 2014 was attended by dozens of participants consisting of lecturers and students.

From the activities that had been going on for five days, many positive impressions from the participants during their practice as they were invited to tour in nature at Gunung Walat. One of them was expressed by Prof. Kazuo Hayashi, who previously visited Gunung Walat four years ago.

“I am very happy to be able to come here again with our students and staff. First, I was very impressed by the challenges here” he explained.

Prof. Kazuo explained that during his stay at Gunung Walat, the introduction of the forest management system prioritized direct relationships with communities around the forest. And if it is possible, this concept will be used in Japan.

“So we have to do this sustainably in how to interact with the community. This is an extraordinary experience for us” he concluded.
