Planting 3,000 Trees by ConocoPhillips Indonesia

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Symbolical planting of trees by ConocoPhillips Indonesia’s leaders and staff in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) took place on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

The planting activity in 2010 was the second time of planting in one site of the GWUF area which was named ConocoPhillips Valley covering an area of 10 hectares with a total of 3,000 trees. In the first time of 2009, 2,000 trees were planted.

A tree was symbolically planted by President Director of ConocoPhillips Indonesia, Jim Taylor.

“ConocoPhillips has a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program that is very concerned about the environment and we have a restoration program for damaged land in other areas whose activities are the same as in GWUF such as in South Sumatra, Jambi, and other regions”, said Krisna Ismaputra as Environmental Sustainable Environment Manager.

“ConocoPhillips’ CSR programs try to get benefits for the environmental aspects and for the social aspects. In the environmental aspect, (the benefits are obtained) by planting in the forest as we know it can absorb carbon meanwhile for the social aspects, by contributing to communities around the forest,” said Krisna Ismaputra.

“It is expected that activities like this will be emulated by other private parties, and will continue because staff are directly involved by buying tree seedlings and planting directly so that there is a sense of responsibility in preserving the natural environment,” added Krisna Ismaputra.

“ConocoPhillips is also actively campaigning for ‘I love earth’ for all people in the world to create the earth as a place that is worth living”, he added.
