Fieldtrip of IPB Graduate Students of Environment and Natural Resources Management in GWUF

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Fieldtrip of IPB Graduate Students of Environment and Natural Resources Management  has been conducted on 25-26 April 2011  in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF).

This fieldtrip to  GWUF constitutes a part of a series of visits by the graduate students to  several other institutions, such as Badan Lingkungan Hidup (BLH, Environment Agency) Sukabumi and PT Tirta Investama.

This field trip was followed by S2 (Master of Science) students  (27 persons)  and S3  (Doctorate) students (17  persons).  The teaching staffs who were present in this field  trip were Dr.Widiatmaka, Dr. Amin, and Prof. Dr. Cecep Kusmana.

According to one of the organizers of this fieldtrip, Isluyandari Woelan,  the objective of this field trip was providing insights on problems and scope of environment issues in the sciences of environment and natural resources, namely:
1.The field of environment management and policy.
2.The field of environment pollution (PT Tirta Investama).
3. The field of biodiversity and ecotourism (GWUF).

“GWUF was chosen as one the of the field trip’s destination due the successful role of GWUF in reforesting barren areas and rehabilitating  post mining land area ” said Isluyandari.

Activities which were conducted in GWUF were among other things planting of pine trees as many as 100 planting stocks,  viewing the techniques of resin tapping of agathis and pine trees, and hiking / tracking inside the GWUF and the surrounding villages.
