Forestry Resource Management Practices of Faculty of Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Forestry Resource Management Practices of Faculty of Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) had been held from September 9-14 2015 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

This practice was attended by seven participants from UPM.

According to a representative from UPM student named Agusnan, the six-day event was a part of the continuation of the practices that had been conducted at the Faculty of Forestry of IPB.

“We actually continue our practices that have been finished at IPB, Bogor. We were placed in the Department of Forest Products (DHH) of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB, we have practised in the four divisions at Forest Product Department (DHH) then we went to Gunung Walat to continue the next practice” Agusnan said when met at the location of the activity.

During their stay at Gunung Walat, they did practice forest product management activities such as practising tapping methods for pine and resin which were guided directly by lecturers from the Faculty of Forestry of IPB, Dr. Gunawan Santosa.

“That is our activity which has been planned to be carried out at Gunung Walat. After from Gunung Walat, we will go to an industry located in Bandung to see the process of the sap” said 7th-semester undergraduate students in Major of Wood Science and Technology UPM.

Agusnan added that the services provided by GWUF were quite good. Both facilities and forest conditions are always sustainable.

“We see in Gunung Walat this is very regular and the management is very good. Aside from protecting the forest, we also see this forest producing products. We are very amazed to see this forest in Gunung Walat as an educational forest” he concluded.
