Forest Management Practices (P2H) by students of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Forest Management Practices (P2H) by students of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB took place from 27 June till 17 July 2013 in Gunung Walat University Forest.

This P2H activity was an annual agenda in accordance with the curriculum which was attended by 390 participants who were 47th Batch students Faculty of Forestry of IPB and would go up to the 4th year. This P2H is also guided directly by 35 lecturers in the field.

P2H was held in several places in West Java and one of the places which become the main and longest place was Gunung Walat University Forest. The other places were in Cianjur, Bandung, Gunung Halimun Salak National Park, and so on. GWUF was a very suitable place for practice because of the completeness of forest resources including facilities and infrastructure that were very adequate.

“We routinely hold P2H every year because this is a competency that must be possessed by forestry graduate candidates and attended by all students from all departments in Faculty of Forestry IPB”, said Dr. Gunawan Santosa as Chairperson of the 2013 P2H Committee.

“Through this P2H, it is hoped that students can get to know and understand all forest management activities starting from planning, forest development, forest product utilization, conservation, community forestry, forest product industry, until marketing of forest products” he said.

“P2H can be an example for another faculty of forestry or forestry institutions in Indonesia. With P2H that is intensively held at Gunung Walat, this could later become the forerunner as a centre for forestry education in Indonesia and overseas”, he explained.

“I hope what is gained during this practice can be a provision for all participants to be able to understand more about forestry disciplines, especially matters related to forest management” he explained.
