Field Practice of Environmental Management Technique of IPB School of Diploma

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Field Practice of Environmental Management Technique of IPB School of Diploma had been held from 5-6 December 2015 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

This practice was attended by 125 first semester students, 12 teaching assistants, and two lecturers.

“Here we are practising the basic ecology courses with the practicum of analysis of vegetation. So this activity is scheduled to be close to the semester exam at Gunung Walat” said the field practicum assistant, Taufik, when met at the location of the activity.’

According to Taufik, the reason for the field practice at Gunung Walat was because the student could feel the atmosphere of a forest with a dense forest vegetation.

“The practice used to be at Gunung Walat in Bogor Botanical Gardens, but the atmosphere was not like a forest and the vegetation was not as dense as here, so Gunung Walat was the choice we made after five years” he said.

Taufik explained that during their stay at Gunung Walat, the students analyzed vegetation using four methods, they were line method, square method, circle, and quadrant.

“We emphasize the practicum to be about the method of vegetation analysis. Usually, it takes one day for us to discuss two methods with plots that they control. But maybe there is only one group for each plot because we are here just for the introductions” he explained.
