Evaluation of AKECOP project

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Evaluation of AKECOP project phase IV year 2011/2012, in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWuF) has been conducted on 2 March 2012 in GWEF.

Asean-Korea Environmental Cooperation Project (AKECOP) is a cooperation project in the field of environment by ASEAN countries and South Korea. Faculty of Forestry (IPB) is one of the parties which is related with this AKECOP project. One of the project agenda is research on agroforestry and carbon absorption in the area of Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF).

Research on agroforestry has been conducted since the year 2001 in GWUF. The present activities are for monitoring and evaluating the agroforestry research which has been conducted in the past, and for designing the activities for future research.

This evaluation was conducted by 2 evaluators from Seoul National University (SNU) of South Korea, which were accompanied by faculty members of Forestry Faculty (IPB), namely Dr. Leti Sundawati and Soni Trison, M.Si. One of the directors of GWUF, namely Dr. Tatang Tiryana also accompanied the evaluators. Besides those, there were also several professors from SNU who came to GWUF to observe directly the condition of GWUF.

Evaluation of AKECOP project was initiated with presentation of the most recent condition of agroforestry in the territory of GWUF, by Dr. Tatang Tiryana (Director of GWUF for research and development). Afterwards, there was inspection on agroforestry sites and sample plots for carbon absorption in people owned land. Besides the field inspection tour, there was also discussion on topics related with the research.

In this research activities of AKECOP in GWUF, Dr. Leti Sundawati acts as the principal investigator, whereas the members are Prof. Iskandar Z. Siregar, Dr. Dodik R Nurrochmat, Prof. Nurheni Wijayanto, Dr. Sri Wilarso, and Ir. Soni Trison, MSi.

“In this year 2011/2012, Faculty of Forestry (IPB) conducts research entitled Assessing carbon sequestration from various land uses and community readiness on climate change mittigation in rural areas of Indonesia, whose research sites are villages around GWUF,” says Dr. Leti Sundawati who acts as the principal investigator.

Previously, all members of the SNU have attended “Joint Seminar Korea-Indonesia for Development of Eco-Edu Forest and Friendship Model Forest in Hambalang” in IICC-Bogor from 29 Feb to 1 March 2012.
