“Well, we hold the training in here because there will so many things that students can learn. In order to make the student’s understanding to be comprehensive, it is certainly necessary to practice in a place that unites all these lessons. We chose GWUF as the practice field because it is lucky a very representative place for our activities” said the Head of Geomatics and Mapping Survey Program, Romli Zulkifli, M.Sc, when met at the location.

Romli Zulkifli said that during practising at Gunung Walat, students learn four tools, they are GPS, Total Station, digital theodolite, and water pass. Of the four tools, their use in the field also varied. For GPS, it is used to learn how to reconstruct the boundary of GWUF. Total Station, which has a lot of uses, can be used by students to make topographic and contour map and other activities.

“In the last two days of our activity, we will map the situation os GWUF basecamp and give the result to GWUF. Well, this water pass is related to road surveys. We have also made stations or STAs to measure roads in the GWUF area meanwhile digital theodolite is used for open polygons, such as to open new road plans” he added.

According to photogrammetry and GIS (Geographic Information System) teachers, activities on Gunung Walat was a preparation to enter industrial work practices in the third grade.
