Ceremonial Planting of 2,000 Tree by TOSO Company, Ltd. Japan

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Ceremonial tree planting was held by the Head of TOSO Company, Ltd. Japan in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) on Thursday, December 2, 2010.

Cooperation on tree planting by TOSO Company, Ltd. (head office in Japan) was planned for 5 years from 2010 until 2014. For this year, 2,000 trees are planted out of a total of 6,000 trees that are planned for 5 years. The type of plant which is planted this year is pine.

This planting activity by TOSO Company, Ltd was a follow-up to the collaboration in 2009 by TOSO Industry Indonesia that planted 4,000 trees. This planting aimed to increase carbon stocks.

In this planting event, the head of TOSO Company was accompanied by the Director of GWUF, Ir. Budi Prihanto, MS and Dean of IPB Forestry Faculty, Dr. Hendrayanto.

Every year for 5 years TOSO Company will plant in the GWUF area, especially in one site of GWUF which is named TOSO Hill that covered 10 Ha area.

“At present, the forest is very useful to increase carbon stocks. The planting program by TOSO gets very good sympathy in the community” said Koriyama, Head of Engineering Department TOSO Company Japan.

“Japanese people are very interested in preserving the environment and TOSO also plays a role in preserving the environment so that it gets a good image by the Japanese community there” he added.

According to Yoshihiko Hori (President Director of TOSO Industry Indonesia), there was TOSO’s responsibility in increasing carbon stocks for the common good.

“GWUF is a suitable place for our program because it is an educational forest so it can participate in improving quality of education, especially in the forestry” said Ir. Nature, MM one of the TOSO Industry Indonesia managers.
