Wood Research by Student of Utsunomiya University, Japan

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) was used as the area for research by students and lecturer from Japanese universities on Wednesday-Saturday (September 22-25, 2010).

The research team consisted of a lecturer (Prof. Ishiguri Futoshi) and 2 Master and Doctoral students from Utsunomiya University, Japan. Professor Ishiguri Futoshi is an assistant professor in the Department of Forest Science, Forest Product Division, Utsunomiya University. This research team is a colleague of Prof. Imam Wahyudi, lecturer of Faculty of Forestry of IPB, who helped a lot in the implementation of this research.

They conducted research on the quality of wood in the tropical forest. The reason of GWUF was chosen as the location of research on the wood tree quality is because this university forest was one of the areas in the world that had tropical wood species (hardwood or softwood).

This is the second research by Professor Ishiguro in GWUF after previously researching about Pinus insularis species and agroforestry in GWUF. After the research, there is a temporary conclusion that tropical forest woods, such as pine and agathis, in GWUF are types of wood that have the premium quality.
