Julian Schmid Germany - GWUF

Gunung Walat Sukabumi – Visit by German student (Julian Schmid) to Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) on 13 August 2012.

Julian Schmid is a Bachelor of Science student at the Fachhochschule Effurt University (Germany), majoring in Forestry and Ecology System Management. At present, he is undergoing orientation and actual exercises on invasive plant species identification and database management, and GIS application for forest planning at BIOTROP. One of his agenda is a one day visit to Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) to get more insight on the nature of tropical forests.

During his one day visit to GWUF, he is accompanied by Dr. Cahyo WIbowo (Director of Forest Resource Management of GWUF), GWUF staffs, and several IPB (Bogor Agricultural University) students who were undergoing field practice in GWUF.

To Julian Schmid, GWUF introduced him to among other things, the nature of tropical plantation forest whose structure approach natural forest, various tropical tree and undergrowth plant species existing in GWUF, various wild animals existing in GWUF, non timber forest products from GWUF, and social interaction of GWUF with people around the forest.

One topic which impressed Mr. Julian Schmid much, was his direct encounter with and observation of wild animals existing in GWUF.
