Since the year 1951, planting efforts was conducted by Forestry Service and IPB forestry students, until the land become dense forest as in the present condition. The initial condition of the GWUF land in 1951 was somewhat similar with ex-mining land, and the success of GWUF to change the barren land into dense forest, inspires many parties, particularly mining companies. Dr. Cahyo Wibowo who is also a soil science lecturer in IPB, described the geological aspect of Gunung Walat area and its relation with soil formation in the area.

Training in GWUF also practiced the techniques of utilizing natural seedlings (wildlings ) from the forest by using the techniques of making earthballed plants and of using uprooted plants, under the guidance of Dr. Sri Wilarso Budi R.

“Visit to GWUF is intended to show the model of successful revegetation of land by Faculty of Forestry. Before this visit, the participants were brought to Holcim Educational Forest which constitutes area which will be made as location of reclamation and revegetation of land, while GWUF serve as successful land revegetation”, said Dr. Erianto Indra Putra who acted as training leader and trainer.
