Training on Enumeration and Re-emuneration of TSP-PSP Ministry of Forestry

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Quality Improvement and Implementation of Forest Resource Inventory through Enumeration and Re-emuneration Training of TSP-PSP took place July 2-16 2012 in Gunung Walat University Forest.

Training of TSP-PSP (Temporary Sample Plot – Permanent Sample Plot) was held by Directorate of Forest Resources Inventory and Monitoring (IPSDH) of Directorate General of Forestry Planology of the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia to improve the quality and implementation of forest resource inventories.

Training participants are technical personnel at the Forest Area Stabilization Center (BPKH) of the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry. The number of participants who participated was 30 people from 17 BPKH spread around Indonesia. BPKH is an institution that has main tasks, those are boundary management, the formation of Forest Management Units (KPH), enumeration of TSP-PSP. Enumeration of TSP-PSP has been designed since the 1990s. Inventory parameters are biophysical, timber, non-timber, and seedlings. The results of the inventory will produce data about information and include knowing the carbon stock in Indonesia.

“With the global issue of climate change, the TSP-PSP enumeration methodology is developing. Not only the measured aboveground biomass but now the underground is also measured and carbon stock is calculated”, said Purnomo as committee chairman.

The training was guided by a lecturer from the IPSDH Directorate of the Directorate General of Forestry Planning, the Forestry Education and Training Center, a biomass expert from the University of Brawijaya, Prof. Kurniatun Hairiyah, and also the UN FAO consultant.

The training was held for 15 days with 30% theoretical material and 70% practice. One of the materials is to develop a data entry application program, so that data entry is easily carried out by technical personnel in the field. The Center of Education and Training also added material related to self-development, leadership and sociology.

There was also additional material by the Executive Director of Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF), Ir. Budi Prihanto, MS, about carbon stocks trading by taking the example that has been done by GWUF with several companies including ConocoPhillips Indonesia, TOSO Company Japan, and NYK Group Japan.

“The training was conducted in GWUF because it was in accordance with the type of training that was done that needed a place has a wood structure that resembles a natural forest. After comparing it with other places, GWUF is the most suitable and representative one” said Purnomo.
