Training for Technical Workers (Ganis) and Technical Supervisors (Wasganis) of Management of Sustainable Production Forests (PHPL)

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Training for Technical Workers (Ganis) and Technical Supervisors (Wasganis) of Management of Sustainable Production Forests (PHPL) was held at GWUF on 11-28 October 2010 by the Directorate General of Forestry Business Development, Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia.

The Ganis participant was the owners of the IUPHHK (Business License for Timber Forest Product Utilization), that is the entrepreneurs who hold the Forest Management Rights. While Wasganis participants came from BP2HP (Production Forest Utilization Monitoring Center), Director General of Forestry Business Development, Ministry of Forestry.

Training for Ganis was held in order to improve the professionalism in sustainable production forest management as technical personnel, to give technical training before practice, to prepare the participant to be able to work independently and professionally. Wasganis functioned as supervisors for technical personnel so that sustainable forest management programs could work well. Training for Ganis was held from October 11-18 meanwhile for Wasganis from October 19-28, 2010 with the number of participants being 30 ganis and 30 wasganis.

“The training for ganis and wasganists are expected to make the participants become master of forest planning and able to apply in their respective places. Ganis (will contribute) in the company while wasganis in many technical service units of Forestry Business Development ” said Durahman S. Sos, MM together with Suhono, from the Forestry Business Development as training committee.

Selection of training centres in GWUF due to the diversity of species that represents both production and natural forests, the ease of infrastructure, and the introduction of Gunung Walat as a production forest training area.

“The materials taught in this education and training are the organizational aspect, tree measurement procedures, work area management procedures, procedures for inventorying pre-felling tree, preparation of annual and 10-year business work plans, mapping with GIS, and the introduction of tree types. For wasganis, the added material is about supervision, “said Ir. Suwarno Sutaraharja as a lecturing staff from the Faculty of Forestry, IPB. Another teaching staff that was involved in this training was Priyanto, M.Sc.
