The visit of researchers from The University of Tokyo and Ehime University, Japan

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – The visit of researchers from The University of Tokyo and Ehime University, Japan took place on August 15, 2018 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

This activity was attended by 4 researchers from Japan, accompanied by lecturers from Faculty of Forestry of IPB, and welcomed by the Executive Director of GWUF, Dr. Nandi Kosmaryandi, M.Sc. The visit was meant as a discussion and quick trip which became a place for sharing forestry knowledge between two countries.

“The presence of these Japanese researchers in Indonesia is a follow-up to the research collaboration between the Ministry of Research and Technology of Indonesia and Ministry of Culture of Japan. We focus on K3 (Occupational Health and Safety) and production for logging activities in Sukabumi. In between activities, we took the time to visit the Gunung Walat University Forest in Sukabumi to exchange forestry knowledge” said Dr. Efi Yuliati Yovi, S.Hut.M.Life.Env.Sc as a lecturer at Faculty of Forestry of IPB who accompanied the Japanese researcher.

“I understand that there are so many good activities to promote functions and activities with the surrounding community in here with a very useful education system” said Nitami Toshio, Ph.D. researcher from The University of Tokyo, Japan.

Nishami Toshio added that she was so fascinated by the forest condition in Gunung Walat and Gunung Walat strategy to be able to generate income without dependence on other parties.

“I was very impressed with the many large trees here. I think further research and practice may be needed to get more many benefits” she concluded.
