Students Forest Management Practices (FMP) of the Faculty of Forestry IPB in 2011

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Forest Management Practices (FMP) by students of the Faculty of Forestry IPB had been held from 3-24 July 2011. The FMP was attended by 324 participants who were students of the Faculty of Forestry Batch 45 or the 3rd year who would continue to the 4th year. This FMP was also guided by 24 lecturers who took turns directly guiding students in the field. There were also 16 assistants who help guide the students.

The aim of FMP was to provide students with knowledge of forestry science by directly observing to the field.

There are some places for FMP in West Java and the main and longest one is GWUF. There are also some places in Cianjur, Bandung, Gunung Halimun National Park, etc. GWUF is a very appropriate place to be used as a place of practice because of the completeness of forest resources including facilities and infrastructure that are also very adequate.

In this FMP, the GWUF management also distributed 2,000 Jabon (Anthocephalus cadamba) seedlings as the initial plan for the development of community forests around the GWUF.

There was also counselling by students to the surrounding community about cultivation techniques and community forest business prospects.

“This year FMP goes well. The assistants have a huge role in guiding participants so that the activities run well and the relationship between them runs smoothly well. The contribution of guiding lecturers that was directly involved also helped the successfulness of FMP in 2011” said Dr. Gunawan Santosa as Chairperson of the Committee of FMP 2011.

“Not only studying forestry, but FMP is also held raising the unity so that cohesiveness is highly shown. The students can get to know each other more closely so that this particular cohesiveness of the 2011 generation is built” he added.

At the closing night, there were also campfire events of special memories for 3 weeks doing joint practice on GWUF.
