Practices of Forest Management (PTKH) of Forestry Major, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Practices of Forest Management (PTKH) of Forestry Major, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University took place on August 19 -31 2013 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi.

This PTKH activity that contained material in the classroom and practice in the field, of course, became a new experience for students who are most active in campus and are now faced with field situations of the forest in GWUF.

“It is important for a forester to know how the life of a forester is just not found on campus, but also in how a forester must carry his duties in the jungle” said Dr. Gunawan Santosa as the Chairperson of the PTKH Committee when he was met at the location of the activity.

The practice which lasted for two weeks was directly guided by lecturers from IPB with various materials in accordance with their fields.

“The materials are provided by lecturers that, I am sure, are very beneficial for us” explained the Head of the Department of Forestry of Riau University, Evi Sri Budiani, M.Si when met at the same time.

According to her, apart from forestry science obtained for two weeks at GWUF, the important things obtained by the students were a training of compactness because the majority of students have different backgrounds. It is expected that after return from GWUF, they can eliminate the sectoral egos that they usually have in the campus.

“Because they come from various regions. Some of them from are from general high school, vocational schools, and Islamic high school so they are grouped. Well, we will try to find out how after returning from here whether they can become more compact to another” she concluded.
