Practice Class of Ecotourism by Students of IPB Vocational College in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF)

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Activities of practice class for the subject of Recreation, Park and Camping, by students of Ecotourism from IPB Vocational College (46th batch of students) have been conducted on 7-10 April 2011 in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF).

These activities were participated in by 57 students, 9 assistant of lecturers, and 3 lecturers, namely Ir. Tutut Sunarminto, MSi ; Dr. Ir. Ricky Avenzora, M.Sc.F; and  Annisa Fitri, S.Hut.

In this occasion, there were also several other officials from Faculty of Foresty (IPB) and Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) namely,   Dean of Faculty of Forestry (Dr. Hendrayanto, M.Agr) , Executive Director of GWUF (Ir. Budi Prihanto, MS); Director of Research of GWUF (Dr. Tatang Tiryana, M.Sc) ; and Director of Business of GWUF (Ir. Nandi Kosmaryandi, MSc.F) who also shared their knowledge, expertise and experiences with the students.

“Activities in this GWUF are for applying our knowledge, expertise and skill which were obtained from the lecture in the Subject of Recreation, Park and Camping. And in this occasion, there is also oral examination for this subject”, said Adrian  who acted as chairman of the organizer.

Dr. Ir. Ricky Avenzora, M.Sc.F  who acted as guiding lecturer in these activities said: “The objective of these activities is improving the quality of teaching and learning process for students of ecotourism. Improvement of this quality is conducted step by step.  The first step is improving  the ability of participants (students)  to see / observe in appropriate and accurate manner, to listen in appropriate and accurate manner, to think about what they have seen and listen in appropriate and accurate manner, and to feel about what they have seen and listen in appropriate and accurate manner”.

Dr. Ricky Avenzora continues further: “afterwards, the participants (students) will be trained to be able to communicate properly and accurately to other party, concerning what they have seen, listened and felt.  The participants are also trained to be able to implement properly and accurately what they have seen, listened and felt”.

“For supporting those processes, there will be oral examination for the students / participants”, added Dr. Ricky Avenzora.

According to Tutut Sunarminto who is a Coordinator for the Program of Ecotourism Expertise in IPB Vocational College, the condition of GWUF, at present, is suitable for practice class for the students. He hoped that in the future, the condition will be better and hopefully the IPB Vocational College could also participate in developing GWUF.

Tutut Sunarminto added: “This hope is synergic with our goal in developing ecotourism. Hopefully, in the future GWUF could serve as the major tourism site in Sukabumi, which could serve as model for other places”.
