NYK Group Ceremonial Program Contributes 1,100 Trees in Planting Tree for Increasing Carbon Sequestration Program

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – NYK Group Ceremonial Program Contributes 1,100 Trees in Planting Tree for Increasing Carbon Sequestration Program has been held on June 23, 2012, in Gunung Walat University Forest.

This event is part of voluntary carbon trading collaboration between NYK Group and Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) for 2 years (2012-2013). In 2009, NYK Group also had voluntary carbon trading cooperation for a year planting fruiting trees such as mango, rambutan, soursop, etc.in an area of 0.8 ha. This fruiting tree is expected to be used as an additional food source for animals in GWUF such as long-tailed monkeys whose its population has now reached hundreds of tails and other forest animals.

In 2012, NYK Group conducted voluntary carbon trading again for 2 years planting Pinus merkusii for 1,100 seedlings with an area of 2.1 ha. Pinus merkusii as the selected plant is due to the ability to grow large and the sap can be used by the tappers of pine sap

The one-day NYK Group event in GWUF is the ceremonial planting of pine seedlings by the directors and staff of NYK Group. NYK Group consists of 4 companies including PT. NYK Line Indonesia, PT. Yusen Logistics Indonesia, PT. Yusen Solution Indonesia, and PT. Puninar Yusen Logistics Indonesia. This ceremonial planting was attended by 120 people from the 4 companies. The board of directors who participated included President Director of NYK Line Indonesia, Mr. Katsuo Isomura, and his deputy, Mr. Yoichiro Morisawa.

The event begins with welcoming session, presentation, and discussion about the collaboration of NYK group and GWUF in voluntary carbon trading schemes with an explanation of the management of GWUF in general by the GWUF Business Development Director, Dr. Nandi Kosmaryandi.

On this occasion, also signed the MoU scheme of voluntary carbon trading between NYK group that is represented by Mr. Katsuo Isomura and GWUF that is represented by Dr. Nandi Kosmaryandi.

After the discussion was finished, the meeting proceeds to the location of planting pine seedling by walking into the forest area. In the tree planting session, everyone planted 1 tree and each tree was given the identity of the planter so that later when it was reviewed again the identity of the tree grower could be identified.

At the end of the event, there was also a review of the location of fruit seedlings planted by NYK Group in 2009 by a small team led by Human Resources/General Affair Manager of NYK Line Indonesia, Mr. Fathan Haras, who also acted as committee chairman in this ceremonial event. From the review of plants in 2009, it was found that plants grow well with varying heights in each type of tree.
