High Conservation Value (HCV) Identification, Management and Monitoring Training by Tropenbos International Indonesia Program (TBI)

Gunung Walat Sukabumi – Training on identification, management and monitoring of High Conservation Value (HCV) has taken place from 28 May to 1 June 2011 at GWUF.

The training was organized by Tropenbos International Indonesia Program (TBI) in collaboration with the Indonesian Environment Voice Foundation (YSLI).

Participants are stakeholders engaged in plantations, forestry, consultants, and practitioners. There were 32 participants from oil palm plantations, forestry consulting companies, plantation consulting companies, certification bodies, and NGOs. The instructors consisted of 5 people, including Ir. Kresno Dwi Santosa, M.Si; Dr. Harnios Arief, M.Sc.F; Ir. Rahmat Herawan, M.Sc.F; Dr. Petrus Gunarso, M.Sc; and Eko Manjela, S.Si.

“The aim of this training is to give knowledge on the application of best practices management especially related to the assessment of areas that have high conservation value in production units such as FMR (Forest Management Right, HPH), industrial forest, and oil palm plantations” said Ir. Kresno Dwi Santosa, M.Si as Forest Management Specialist-HCV (coordinator at Tropenbos International Indonesia Program).

“Training is held in GWUF because GWUF is an example of a forest area that has high conservation value, and Tropenbos also has cooperation with IPB Faculty of Forestry” he added. Activities held during the training included observing the types of trees and protected flora, fauna, environmental services, and community interviews related to their dependence on Gunung Walat University Forest.

Furthermore, Ir. Kresno Dwi Santosa, M.Sc hope that GWUF would be one of the closest sites that can be a site for research and development of environmental education so that this can be very supportive for environmental activities visited by many researchers.
