Forest Management Practices (PTKH) of Department of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University (UNRI), 2016

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Forest Management Practices (PTKH) of Department of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University (UNRI), took place on 22 August – 3 September 2016 in GWUF, Sukabumi.

This practice was attended by 45 UNRI students who were guided directly by the lecturers of IPB Faculty of Forestry IPB and accompanied by 4 assistant lecturers.

During their stay at Gunung Walat, the students studied the basic science of forestry, such as forest inventory, forest pests and diseases, nurseries forest, utilization of non-timber forest products, and community forestry.

In addition to practising at Gunung Walat, the students made a visit to the Mount Gede Pangrango National Park and a comparative study to Perum Perhutani in Cianjur.

This annual activity at Gunung Walat was part of cooperation in education between IPB Faculty of Forestry and UNRI Faculty of Agriculture.

It was hoped that after following this practice, students could apply the maximum procedures for sustainable forest management so that the balance of the ecosystem in it could be maintained and communities around the forest could also utilize forest products.
