Forest Management Practices (PTKH) 2018 of Department of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Forest Management Practices (PTKH) 2018 of Department of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau had been going on 2-14 July 2018 in Gunung Walat University Forest, Sukabumi and surrounding areas.

This practice was attended by 64 UNRI students and guided by 7 lecturers from the Faculty of Forestry, IPB who is in charge of each different material. During their time at Gunung Walat, students studied several materials including forest pests and diseases, mapping, inventory of potential forest stands, boundary demarcation, utilization of non-timber forest products, community forestry, and forest development (nursery, nursery, planting, maintenance). There were also materials given outside Mount Walat including forest product industries, forest resource conservation, and plantation forest management in Perhutani Public Corporation. In addition to practical material, students also conducted cultural and culinary tours in Bandung on the last day.

From the results of all the activities they had received, it was hoped that the collaboration between IPB and UNRI could continue to be well established, especially in terms of education in the forestry field.

“We hope that this cooperation can continue. This is important for our students because what we understand that nothing is perfect. There is something that is better in Riau and there is another that is better in Java. So we need to work together to complement each other to be able to complete” said Mr. Mardiansyah, S. Hut, M.Sc as Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Agriculture of UNRI during the farewell.

According to him, not only the exchange of knowledge obtained by students but this cooperation also created a friendship between two educational institutions that had lasted a long time could be more closely each year.

“We hope that the friendship and emotional connection between IPB and UNRI can be well established for our passion so that we can always make Indonesia’s forests and the world’s forests better together” he concluded.
