Forest Management Practices (P2H) by students of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Forest Management Practices (P2H) by students of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB took place from 27 June – July 18, 2012 in Gunung Walat University Forest.

This P2H activity is an annual agenda of the curriculum which was attended by 328 participants who were students of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB 2009 or 46th batch or the 3rd year students who would go up to the 4th year. The P2H was guided by 35 lecturers who were directly involved in guiding students in the field. There are also 15 assistants who help guide students.

The aim of P2H is to provide students with knowledge of forestry science by directly engaging in the field so that students have the same ability in the field of forest management.

P2H materials have been taught on campus and they are here in GWUF is to enrich their knowledge and practice in the field. For example, in the silviculture section, here students actually do planting activities while on campus it is hard to do due to limited land.

There are some places for P2H in West Java, and Gunung Walat University Forest is the main and longest place. Other than that, there are also in the Cianjur, Bandung, Gunung Halimun Salak National Park, and so on.

“GWUF is a very appropriate place to be used as a place of practice because of the completeness of forest resources including very adequate facilities and infrastructure. As an education forest, GWUF is a very complete field laboratory, that is why P2H is conducted here” said Dr. Gunawan Santosa, Chairperson of the Committee P2H 2012.

“Around 70% of P2H activities are conducted in GWUF, and now many Faculty of Forestry from other universities are also exploring GWUF to be used as a place of practice”, he added.
