Fieldtrip and Basic Training on Student Leadership (LDKS) of SMPN 1 Parungkuda Sukabumi

Gunung Walat, Sukabumi – Fieldtrip and Basic Training on Student Leadership (LDKS) of SMPN 1 Parungkuda Sukabumi took place on 1-2 December 2012 in Gunung Walat University Forest.

Field trip and LDKS in Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) were followed by 108 students from grade VII, VIII, and IX and 18 teachers who guide activities. In addition to LDKS activities, the intraschool student organization, members of youth red-cross, scout, and Paskibra inauguration was also held

Field trip began with an opening ceremony led by Endang Arifin, M.Pd as Vice Principal for Student Affairs. After those students were introduced to the nurseries, medicinal plants in the forest, how to plant the right seedling, the benefits of the forest, etc by the GWUF staff.

Students were very enthusiastic about attending this session because there was a lot of knowledge that could be explored about forestry. Other activities carried out during the field trip were presentations and discussions about the environment, forest benefits, and introduction GWUF management by GWUF Manager, Dizy Rizal, and Assistant Manager, Adly Rahardian Lubis, S.Hut. In this discussion session, a film about the dangers of destroying nature such as illegal logging and film about the benefits of protecting the forest was also played.

Other activities are tracking to the forest while providing basic leadership training materials by the mentor teacher and at the same time learning about the forest condition. In this field trip and LDKS, students are also equipped with Islamic spiritual material, noble character and the importance of protecting the environment. This material was delivered by the Principal, Drs. Herlan Saepulloh, M.Pd, after congregational prayers at the GWUF mosque.

“We want to introduce students to the forest environment that aims to make them care about our forests because many forests are bare due to human activities so that floods occur everywhere and disasters because of human beings as a result of their actions”, said Endang Arifin, M.Pd.

“With discipline, we increase our creativity and learning activities in school by knowing the environment”, he added.

“Alhamdulillah, it is very impressive, many experiences we can take, especially about the environment that we must be able to maintain forest sustainability so that our nature remains sustainable and provides many benefits for humans”, he explained.
